About Grady College

The University of Georgia’s Grady College is one of the oldest and most distinguished journalism and mass communication programs in the country. Its three departments—journalism, advertising and public relations, and telecommunications—are consistently recognized as among the very best in the nation.

Grady College is also home to WNEG-TV and a number of influential centers, institutes, and professorships, including the New Media Institute, the Georgia Scholastic Press Association, the James M. Cox Jr. Center for Mass Communication Training and Research, the James M. Cox Jr. Center for Newspaper Management Studies, the Knight Chair in Health and Medical Journalism, the William S. Morris Chair in Newspaper Management, the Don and Carolyn Carter Professorship for Excellence in Journalism, and the Tom Dowden Professorship in Media Research.

In addition, the college administers the George Foster Peabody Awards, considered to be the electronic media’s most prestigious prize. Peabody Awards recognize the most outstanding achievements in electronic media, including radio, television and cable.
Over the past 67 years, the Peabody has been awarded to recognize the industry’s best, including Edward R. Murrow, NPR, Walter Cronkite, Bill Moyers, Barbara Walters, HBO, 60 Minutes, BBC Television, and Comedy Central.
